Heartbreaker is a standard song about love. There seems to be a lot of songs about love and water. There are either songs about drowning in someone’s love or drowning like in heartbreak. This one is about weathering the storm and choosing to love someone even if you are in a tumultuous relationship with them. Do you want to weather the storm or sail away? Are you willing to try to do well in your relationship even if it’s tough or are you willing to let it go and break the other person’s heart. He also says he’s not trying to drown, he’s trying to get to [her]. So the tumultuous relationship could leave him broken, but he still tries to succeed.
The themes of the song are really good even though it is one of the many love songs already out there. I keep coming back to the guitar chords in the song that seem to help it stand out. The lyrics are good.
I give it a C. The lyrics are standard but the guitar sticks out.
